Peyton Manning selected as September Hickok Belt™ award winner

Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning has been selected as the Hickok Belt Award winner for the month of September 2013. Voting was conducted by a panel of members of the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NSSA).

Manning was selected based on his outstanding performance throughout September, a month in which he completed 75 percent of his passes in four straight Denver Broncos wins. Manning threw for 1,470 yards and 16 touchdowns without throwing an interception – the most touchdowns of any player in history through the first four weeks of a season. This culminated in Manning’s seventh AFC offensive player of the month award.

Other finalists for the month of September in order of how the NSSA voters ranked them included: Rafael Nadal (tennis), Diana Nyad (swimming), Henrik Stenson (golf), Serena Williams (tennis), Floyd Mayweather (boxing), Cliff Lee (baseball), Hunter Pence (baseball), Freddie Freeman (baseball) and Koji Uehara (baseball).

Manning’s selection as the Hickok Belt Award winner for September 2013 recognizes him as “the best of the best” in professional sports for the month and makes him the sixth candidate eligible to receive the 2013 overall award, joining previous 2013 monthly winners Colin Kaepernick, Joe Flacco, Miguel Cabrera, Lebron James and Phil Mickelson.
