Bright Raven Gymnastics Boys and Girls Teams win in Brockport

Nearly 500 young gymnasts represented 17 teams at the 2013 Candy Cane Classic held at The College at Brockport where Bright Raven Gymnastics earned six team awards and many individual honors.

The competition opened with the USAG sanctioned Boys meet on Friday, December 13 where the Bright Raven Level 6 Team was awarded first place. Jake Scherbyn of Gates won first all around (59.20) in the 9-10 age group and first in 2 of the other men’s events men’s events: vault (9.30) and high bar (10.20). Teammate Justin Ciccone of Greece was second all around (55.60) and took first in floor exercise (10.70), pommel horse (9.60) and parallel bars (10.00).  In the Level 6 competition for ages 11 and older Brian Cannon of Chili was first all around (58.70) and took first on floor exercise (10.30), pommel horse (9.40), rings (10.10), vault (8.90) and high bar (10.40). Jesse Underwood of Greece was first on the parallel bars (9.90) and second all around (51.60). Quinlan Schneider of Spencerport was third all around (46.80).

Robbie Cavuoto of Greece was first all around in the Level 8 competition (58.90) and Josh Sokolowski of Spencerport was first all around (58.90) in the Level 9 competition for ages 17-18.

In the Level 4 Boys competition for ages 9-10, Christopher Shabazz of Albion earned first in floor exercise (10.40).

The Bright Raven Girls teams competed December 14 and 15 and earned first place as a team in two different levels – Level 3 and Level 6/7. The Level 6 and 7 events scores were combined to make a team at this meet and Bright Raven earned first place with the assistance of Maeve O’Brien of Rochester and Arianna Johnston of Clarkson competing in Level 6.  O’Brien earned first on vault (9.325), first on bars (9.35) and third all around (35.15) in the 12 and under division. Johnston earned first place on vault (9.20) and second all around (35.125) in the 14 and over age division.

In the Level 7 competition for ages 14 and older, Julianna Gatto of Gates took first in vault (9.725), floor (9.65) and all around (37.10). Gabrielle Coster of Gates earned second all around (36.20) and first place on the uneven parallel bars (9.10). Molly McKenna of Chili was first on balance beam (9.075) and third all around (35.075).

In the 13-year-old Level 7 competition, Keilei Latragna of Hilton was first on vault (9.60), first on bars (8.75) and second all around (36.425).

In the Level 7 competition for ages 12 and under, Indya Richards of Gates was first on vault (9.375), first on floor (9.55) and second all around (37.25).

Bright Raven’s Level 3 Girls team also finished first earning top spots in both all around and individual events. In the 11-year-old competition, Bright Raven girls took first place in each event. McKenna Kiesel of Chili took first place on floor exercise (9.775) and first all around (38.275). Katelyn Burtnick of Chili was first on balance beam (9.575) and second all around (37.55). Addison Glozer of Spencerport was first on bars (9.55) and Jessica Pelkey of Caledonia was first on vault (9.725). Naimah Muhammad of Rochester placed third all around (37.05). In the 12 and over age division, Bright Raven earned the top three all around spots.  Erica Ellis of Gates was first all around (37.025) and also first on bars (9.40). Christina Kurdt of Chili was second all around (36.975) and first on both vault (9.625) and floor (9.35) and Erin Sparro of West Henrietta was third all around (36.60).

In the age 8 and under competition, Camryn Trybuskiewicz of Chili was first all around (37.075) and first in three events:  vault (9.30), bars (9.45) and beam (9.075). Katrina Daly of Spencerport was third all around (36.75) and first on beam (9.20) in the 9-year old division. In the 10-year-old division, Chloe Torres Brown of Batavia took first on bars (9.50).

In the Level 4 competition for ages 13 and over, Bailee Schirano of Spencerport was first all around (36.875).   Ashley Rissew of Gates was first on bars (9.10). In the 9 and under age group, Bria Danesi of Greece was first on vault (9.70) and third all around 37.075. As a team, the Bright Raven Level 4 girls took second place (187.325) to Niagara Gymnastics (187.450).

The Level 5 team also earned second place as a team (111.125) to the Orchard Park Gymsters (111.450). In the 12-year-old division, Emily Field of Greece earned first all around (36.95) and first on floor (9.50). Teammate Elizabeth Ferrari of Spencerport was first on beam (9.125). In the 13 and over age division, Megan Zaharkin of Spencerport was first on bars (9.35) and first all around (36.525). In the 10 and under age division, Emma Taylor of Spencerport placed third all around (36.375).

In the Level 8 competition for ages 14 and older, Taylor Pohleven of Spencerport was first all around (36.325) and first in every event:  vault (9.05), bars (8.80), beam (9.075) and floor (9.40). In the 13 and under age group, Jessica Ficarella of Churchville was first on vault (9.00) and first all around (35.35). In the Level 9 competition for ages 14 and under, Madison Conn of Gates took first on balance beam (8.70) and first all around (33.225). In the 15 and over Level 9 competition, Megan Stevens of Brockport was first on beam (8.20), first on floor (9.05) and first all around (32.375). Bright Raven took second place as a team with the Level 8 and 9 event scores combining for team.
