Hilton CSD Athletic Hall of Fame to induct five new members Dec. 29

Hilton Central School District Athletic Hall of Fame will induct five new members on Monday, December 29 at Hilton High School, 400 East Ave. This year’s honored Hilton CSD athletes and coach are: Matthew Blodgett, 1995 (cross country, indoor and outdoor track); Rachel Clonick, 2006 (basketball, softball), Matthew Cushman, 2001 (volleyball, indoor and outdoor track); Jonathan Schwind, 2008 (soccer, hockey, baseball) and John Feeney, gymnastics coach.

The 2014 Induction Ceremony will be held during the Hilton Hall of Fame Boys Basketball Tournament. All members of the Hilton Athletic Hall of Fame and community members are invited to attend this free event. The reception will begin at 4:30 p.m. followed by the presentation of inductees at 5 p.m. in the auditorium. The inductees will also be recognized in the gym at the beginning of Hilton varsity game vs. Greece Olympia at approximately 6:45 p.m.

The Hilton Central School District Athletic Hall of Fame annually recognizes those individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Hilton athletic program and in some cases, at a higher level, through their participation as athletes, coaches or administrators. Candidates must be a graduate of Hilton High School for a minimum of five years or a retired coach from the Hilton Central School District. Candidates are those who have made outstanding contributions to the Hilton sports program or established themselves in the field of athletics at the local, state, national or international level (professional, Olympic, college athlete, coach, etc.); students who, while in high school, received athletic honors such as All-American, All-State, All-Greater Rochester, State/Sectional Championship, Athlete of the Year or All-County (overall team success and multiple-sport participation may also be considered). Any student who participated in Hilton athletics may be considered under special circumstances.

Members of the selection committee are: Brian Bartalo, Hilton High School principal and former swim and football coach; Tom Coyle ‘55, former Hilton statistician and record keeper; Michael Giruzzi, director of Physical Education and Athletics; Dick LeBeau, retired Hilton athletic director and coach; Jeff Merkel ‘84, athlete and track and cross country coach; Chris Monfiletto, ’89 athlete, teacher and ice hockey and tennis coach; and Mike Whelehan ‘75, Hilton athlete and coach.
