Cadets win first of season

Hilton won an extended first game before also taking the second and third in a 34-32, 25-22, 25-23 sweep of Churchville-Chili in boys volleyball for their first win of the season.

Both teams allowed four point lead to evaporate in game one before the game settled into a point-for-point affair. The teams traded points starting at 22-22 with multiple opportunities to win dissolved by a net serve or mishit all the way to 32-32. Hilton took scored consecutive points on two Saints errors to eke out the 34-32 victory.

The Cadets generated just four points from the offense in game two, including a pair of kills by Bryce Thompson. They built an 11-point lead before the Saints rallied with Jared Moore registering consecutive kills before falling short.

In the third game, C-C built a four point lead at 15-11 before the Cadets rallied on kill by Carl Pilon and an ace from Aaron Gibbs. Nick Rugelis had a kill to tie the contest at 22-all, but Hilton finished off the sweep with consecutive points on errors.

Dylan Angora led the Saints with six kills. The Cadets were paced by Pilon’s eight kills, Thompson’s 15 assists, Joe Cavallaro’s five kills and defensively by Gibbs, who finished with 25 digs and added five aces.
