Bees co-league champs (again)
Byron-Bergen had little trouble in sweeping Oakfield-Alabama 25-12, 25-11, 25-13 as nine seniors celebrated their final regular season home match by clinching another league title – co-champions with Batavia Notre Dame.
Sophomore setter and 2014 Section V All-Tournament team selection Lauren Burke registered five aces over a seven point stretch in the first game to push the Bees to the win after the Hornets had closed the game to 16-12. Senior and leading hitter Byranna D’Agostino ended it with a thundering kill.
Game two featured D’Agostino picking two kills and two aces while Kitana Maher and Joelle Meister also had aces. Bethany Ezard and Cora Ivivson added kills in the win.
Senior Anna Levchuk had a kill and an ace and classmate Alexa Strzelecki added a kill in the game three win.
Burke led all players with twelve assists, ten aces and added three digs; D’Agostino led with nine kills and chipped in three aces while Ivivson finished with four kills.
In addition to D’Agostino, Strelecki, Meister, Levchuk, Ivivson and Ezard, Kait-lyn Harder, Leah Catalino and Jillaina Olander are also completing their senior campaigns.
The Bees completed the league schedule with a 12-1 record and improved to 13-1 overall with their only loss to Notre Dame. They entered their final two games – both non-league – as the top seed for the Section V playoffs in pursuit of their fourth state title in school history.
