Churchville-Chili senior swims to Canisius College

The future looks bright for Tyler Regelsberger, a Churchville-Chili High School senior who plans to take his career in swimming to a new level while working towards a college degree. Regelsberger signed his letter of intent to compete for Division 1 Canisius College at a ceremony on April 16.

“Tyler holds six school records, four individual and two as a member of relay teams,” said Churchville-Chili Athletic Director Michael Murray. “He qualified for an amazing six individual events at states and was a finalist in 100 and 200 freestyles. He was the Section V Class A champion in the 200 individual medley, and was awarded Monroe County Division 2 Swimmer of the Year. Tyler has been a huge part of our team during his varsity career, and very fun to watch.”

Regelsberger is excited to be joining the Griffs in Buffalo. He already knows a few of his future team members and has been impressed with the school’s swimming program.

“Canisius also has a great campus,” he said, “and has very good academic programs in my career areas of business, accounting and computer science.”

Regelsberger will use the skills he gained in high school to prepare for college. “I’ve really loved swimming for Churchville-Chili. It really helped me to train with teammates who were faster and more experienced. My coaches motivated me to work harder and be better.”

Regelsberger was recently named to the Democrat and Chronicle’s 2017-18 All Greater Rochester Boys Swimming Team. This is his second time as an AGR selection. He has also been a First Team Monroe County All-County selection for three consecutive years. Outside of swimming, Regelsberger is a National Honor Society member and an Eagle Scout.

“We’ve had a record number of Churchville-Chili students receive athletic scholarships this year,” said Murray. “So far, we’ve celebrated and completed 10 official signings, and there are a few more students who will be heading to outstanding college sports programs in the fall. We’re very proud.”
