Eagles land short

Kendall spotted Attica an 8-0 lead and a fifth inning rally fell short in what became a 12-3 loss in girls softball.

The Eagles rallied in the home half of the fifth inning as sophomore Autumn Woodward drew a one-out walk and went to second on a single by senior Ashley Kingsbury. A wild pitch advanced runners before Kelly Mayes drove in Woodward, but reach base due to an error.

After a double-steal, senior co-captain Adrianna Passarell reached on a fielder’s choice RBI error scoring Kingsbury on the initial play and Mayes crossing the plate to the overthrow to close the Attica lead to 8-3.

But any thoughts of a comeback ended when the visitors scored four more runs in their half of the sixth for the 12-3 final.

Senior co-captain Kierstyn Christiansen had one of Kendall’s four hits with a second inning down the left field line; Passarell stroked a two-out single in the fourth inning and Kingsbury added her second knock of the game with a two-out single in the seventh inning.

Eagles eighth-grader Sara Mattle struck out four Attica batters, but did have three runs score on wild pitches in throwing a complete game.
