Trap shooting class offered for beginners

The Conservation Club of Brockport is offering its annual Trap Shooting class for beginning shooters. The course is delivered in five one-and-a-half to two-hour sessions. The emphasis is on introductory trap instruction for beginning trap shooters.

Students will be introduced to shotguns, firearms safety, trap fundamentals including trap shooting firearms, chokes, ammunition, trap shooting techniques, scorekeeping, and trap etiquette. Trap basics that are explained and practiced include dominant eye, gun mount, foot position, point of aim, and more.

The mandatory first session is classroom focused and will provide information about trap to prepare the students for four shooting-focused sessions. Experienced club shooters and safety instructors will deliver the classroom and range instruction. Each student will receive individual instruction and attention.

The class, limited to 10 students, is open to club members and also to the general public. Class dates are June 11, 17, 18, 24, and 25. Classes will begin at 6 p.m. at the Conservation Club clubhouse, 291 Ladue Road, Brockport.

The participation cost for non-members is $80. The fee covers the cost of the clays and includes two rounds of Monday night open trap. Shooters must provide or purchase their own shot shells. To reserve a spot, email mgcyrccob@gmail.com. The class is expected to fill quickly.

This class is not intended for those who currently shoot trap who are interested in improving their score.

For those interested in shooting trap, Monday night trap shooting is open to the public.
