Byron-Bergen senior signs to compete for Saint John Fisher

The Byron-Bergen long jump record holder, Veronica Duell, has signed to continue her track career at Saint John Fisher where she plans to major in biology and work toward her goal of becoming a dentist. Duell, a sprinter and a jumper, currently holds the Byron-Bergen school record in the long jump at 17 feet 1.75 inches, which she set on May 10, 2019.

“She is a mentor to many of our younger athletes who aspire to have successful track careers like her,” said girls varsity track coach Ken Rogoyski. “Veronica gives her all at every practice and every meet. Veronica is definitely one of our superstar track athletes!”

Duell runs the 100 and 200 and competes in the long jump and the triple jump. She also has a crucial role in the 4×100 relay team. She has been named a Genesee Region League All-Star in Track and Field and is a team captain.

Duell chose Saint John Fisher because of the sense of community on the track and in academics. “The campus is small, beautiful, close to home, and their biology program and coaches are absolutely amazing,” said Duell. “I would like to thank my family for going to all of my meets during my high school career and all of the amazing people that have coached me (special shout-out to Coach Rogoyski and Coach Muhlenkamp). I’d also like to thank my teachers and my friends for always pushing me to be a better person and athlete.”
