Scorse earns top spot in U.S. Senior Amateur Qualifier
A field of 26 golfers competed for one qualifying position and two alternate spots in the 2021 U.S. Senior Amateur Qualifier hosted by Stafford Country Club on Thursday, August 12.
A playoff was held after three players all tied for first place with rounds of 3-over-par 75. Jim Scorse of Churchville won the playoff on the second extra hole, with Don Burns of Jamesville becoming First Alternate for finishing in second place. The Second Alternate designation went to Brian Kumiega of Buffalo after he was eliminated on the first extra hole of play.
Scorse first became eligible for the U.S. Senior Amateur last year but could not qualify because of the cancellation of the Championship due to the COVID pandemic. He now advances to the 2021 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship, which runs from August 28 through September 2 and will be hosted by the Country Club of Detroit in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan.
