Zigrossi among champions of 2021 RDGA Junior Invitational

The 2021 RDGA Junior Invitational concluded Sunday, September 19, with final round action at Irondequoit Country Club.

The 48-player field featured top high school and middle school golfers from Rochester and surrounding areas in Upstate New York competing in three divisions over two days and 36 holes of stroke play in an official Junior Scoreboard-ranked event.

In the Girls Junior Division (ages 12 to 18), Spencerport resident Julia Zigrossi, the back-to-back winner of the RDGA Girls Junior Championship and the reigning Section V champion from Mercy High School, posted rounds of 74-81 over the two-day, 36 hole Invitational for a 7-over-par 155 total for 36 holes.

Finishing in second place was Rosalie Dinunzio of Clarence High School, with rounds of 84-79 for a 163, followed by Jaden Ford in third place with scores of 84-84 for a 168 total.

Winning the Boys Junior Division (ages 15 to 18) title was Owen Corby of Pittsford Sutherland High School. Corby – who finished runner-up to Ryan Connors in the 2021 RDGA Junior Championship in July – posted an even-par 72 in Round 1, then followed that up with a 4-under-par 68 in Round 2 for a 4-under 140 total for the 36 hole Championship.

Finishing in a tie for second place was first-round co-leader Jack Berl of Victor High School and Punn Chittaratlert of Syracuse’s Jamesville-Dewitt High School. Berl had rounds of 72-77 for a 149 total, and Chittaratlert had rounds of 73-76 for a 149 total.

In the Boys Sub Junior Division (ages 12 to 14), Jackson Ormond of Webster’s Spry Middle School posted a 74 in Saturday’s first round, followed by a 3-under-par 69 in the final round on Sunday to finish with a 1-under-par 143 total to win the Division by nine shots.

Finishing in a tie for second place was Jason Starkweather of Churchville-Chili High School and Owen Tehan of Webster Thomas High School. Starkweather posted rounds of 78-74 for a 152 total, while Tehan had scores of 77-75 for a 152 total.

The 2021 RDGA Junior Invitational concludes the Junior portion of the 2021 RDGA Tournament Schedule.
