Giannis Antetokounmpo named March 2022 Hickok Belt® Award Winner

Milwaukee Bucks power forward Giannis Antetokounmpo has been named the Hickok Belt® Award winner for March 2022. Voting was conducted by a select panel of members of the National Sports Media Association (NSMA). The voters selected Antetokounmpo, nicknamed “The Greek Freak,” on his performance during the month of March. On March 29, playing at MVP level, the 27-year-old led the Bucks in a crucial win against the Philadelphia 76ers, scoring 40 points, 14 rebounds, and a game deciding block in the final seconds that earned the Bucks a 120-118 victory. Two days later, he led his team to another come from behind win against the Brooklyn Nets. The Bucks won in overtime 120-119. Antetokounmpo ended up with 40 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists. In addition, he surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the all-time scorer in Milwaukee Bucks history, scoring 14,211 points so far in his career.

Other finalists for March in order of how the NSMA voters ranked them were: Scottie Scheffler (golf), LeBron James (basketball), Johnny Gaudreau (hockey), Taylor Fritz (tennis), Josh Warrington (boxing), Charles Leclerc (auto racing), Nanna Koerstz Madsen (golf), Iga Swiatek (tennis), and Ilya Sorokin (hockey).

Antetokounmpo’s selection as the Hickok Belt® Award winner for March 2022 not only recognizes him as “the best of the best” in professional sports for the month, it also makes him the second candidate eligible to receive the overall award for 2022, joining Cooper Kupp and other finalists throughout the year based on NSMA voting.
