Scottie Scheffler wins Hickok Belt® Award for April 2022

Professional golfer Scottie Scheffler has been named the Hickok Belt® Award winner for April 2022. Voting was conducted by a select panel of members of the National Sports Media Association (NSMA). The voters selected Scheffler, the number one golfer in the world, based on his first Masters victory on April 10. The Masters is the world’s most sought-after golf title. In an exciting finish he held off Rory McIlroy and Cameron Smith by three strokes to win his fourth PGA Tour win in six tournaments. Arnold Palmer is the only other pro golfer who accomplished this feat in that time span, and among the four includes the Masters. Scheffler joined an elite group of five players to win the PGA and Masters, on golf’s biggest stage, in the same year.

Other finalists for April in order of how the NSMA voters ranked them were: Joel Embiid (basketball), Giannis Antetokounmpo (basketball), Mike Smith (hockey), Jose Ramirez (baseball), Jennifer Kupcho (golf), Pablo Lopez (baseball), Pavel Buchnevich (hockey) and Tyson Fury (boxing) – tied, and Charles Leclerc (auto racing).

Sheffler’s selection as the Hickok Belt® Award winner for April not only recognizes him as “the best of the best” in professional sports for the month, it also makes him the third candidate eligible to receive the overall award for 2022, joining Giannis Antetokounmpo and Cooper Kupp. Other finalists will be selected throughout the year based on NSMA voting.
