Eight to be inducted into Hilton HS Athletic Hall of Fame on October 6

The Hilton High School Athletic Hall of Fame will induct eight new members on Thursday, October 6. This year’s honored Hilton CSD athletes are: Shelby (Herman) Madden ‘08 (cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field); Bethanne Haight ‘08 (field hockey); Jordan Ott ‘13 (soccer and softball); DJ Logory ‘13 (football and basketball); Tyler Ranke ‘14 (cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field); Anthony DePrez ‘14 (wrestling); Vincent DePrez ‘14 (wrestling) and Cameron Graupman ‘16 (basketball).

The Hilton High School Sports Hall of Fame annually recognizes those individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Hilton CSD athletic program and in some cases, at a higher level, through their participation as athletes, coaches, or administrators. The 2022 Induction Ceremony will be held at Hilton High School on Thursday, October 6, at 2:30 p.m. All members of the Hilton Athletic Hall of Fame and all community members are invited to attend the presentation of inductees in the high school auditorium. The inductees will also be recognized and honored at the Homecoming Parade and before the Homecoming football game on Friday, October 7.

Qualifications for admission to the Sports Hall of Fame: Hilton High School graduates of five years or more who completed their collegiate career; coaches who have been retired from coaching in the Hilton Central School District; individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Hilton sports program or have established themselves in the field of athletics at the local, state, national, or international level (professional, Olympic, college athlete, coach, etc.); a graduate who, while in high school, received athletic honors such as All-American, All-State, All-Greater Rochester, State/Sectional Championship, Athlete of the Year, or All-County, (overall team success and multiple-sport participation may also be considered); any graduate who participated in Hilton High School athletics may be considered under special circumstances.    

Members of the selection committee are: Brian Bartalo, Holley CSD superintendent, former principal of Hilton High School and swim coach; Tom Coyle ‘55, former Hilton statistician and record keeper; Jeff Merkel ‘85, athlete and track, cross country coach; Marcey Garno ‘84, athlete, former varsity cheerleading coach and Athletic Office administrative assistant; Amy Centola, varsity softball coach and teacher; Ken Krause, teacher and former varsity boys soccer coach; David Heise ’96, varsity athlete and varsity girls basketball coach and teacher; Steve Sorensen ‘87, athlete, former varsity girls soccer coach and current assistant principal at Merton Williams Middle School; Tara Merino, teacher, coach and current athletic coordinator; and Michael Giruzzi, Hilton director of physical education and athletics.
