Spencerport native receives 2025 IFCC Young Investigator Award

The IFCC, the international leading organization in the field of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, selected Dr. Christopher Farnsworth, a former resident of Spencerport and graduate of Spencerport High School, to receive the 2025 IFCC Young Investigator Award, sponsored by Snibe. This award recognizes and encourages the academic and professional development of a young investigator (under 40 years of age) who has demonstrated exceptional scientific achievements in Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine early in their career.

Dr. Farnsworth earned his PhD from the University of Rochester in 2017 and completed his clinical chemistry fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis in the Department of Pathology and Immunology. Following his fellowship, he joined the faculty at Washington University as a clinical instructor. Notably, he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2022, just three years after his initial appointment, in recognition of his outstanding achievements. He has already received numerous prestigious awards for his achievements and contributions. Among them he earned the AACC Outstanding Scientific Achievements by a Young Investigator award and the BJC Team Award for Quality Improvement for reducing insufficient specimen rates, reflecting their impactful contributions to clinical science and patient care. Dr. Farnsworth has a record of research funding and publications. He has demonstrated sustained scholarly achievement through continuous external funding, more than 70 peer-reviewed publications, four case reports, and numerous book chapters, reviews, and editorials. He has presented his work nationally and internationally, particularly for improving patient care through enhanced laboratory testing. His leadership extends to mentoring medical trainees and developing the COVID-19 module for the NEJM Knowledge+ platform, further solidifying his global reputation.

Prof. Khosrow Adeli, IFCC Past President and Chair IFCC Awards Committee, said: “We are delighted in selecting Dr. Christopher Farnsworth for the 2025 IFCC Young Investigator Award. He has a remarkable career in the field of clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine and, despite his young age, Dr. Farnsworth is an accomplished and rising clinical chemist with a proven track record of excellence in clinical service, education and research. His numerous scholarly achievements, including impactful publications, international recognition, and leadership in innovative projects, underscore his exceptional potential. I believe that he well deserves the 2025 IFCC Young Investigator Award.”

Dr Farnsworth and three other IFCC Distinguished Awards winners were formally recognized on May 18 at the Opening Ceremony of the XVI EuroMedLab Congress in Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine in Brussels, Belgium.
