RLMI program available free to underserved participants

Rochester Lifestyle Medicine Institute (RLMI) is providing 20 scholarships to its 15-Day Whole-Food, Plant-Based Jumpstart program to underserved residents of the Greater Rochester area, thanks to a grant from the T. Colin Campbell Center For Nutrition Studies.

Chronic disease is more prevalent in at-risk communities, largely owing to social determinants of health. It is estimated that 70 to 80 percent of chronic illness could be avoided with a healthy lifestyle and this grant will allow recipients in need to begin to take back their health.

The Lifestyle Medicine providers at RLMI advocate using a whole-food, plant-predominant dietary lifestyle, regular physical activity, stress management, risky substance avoidance, and positive social connection as a primary therapeutic modality for treatment and reversal of chronic disease.

RLMI’s 15-Day Jumpstart was developed as an evidence-based, affordable, and standardized program, designed to quickly demonstrate to patients that changing what they eat can improve their health. This is a limited-time opportunity for anyone for whom the $149 tuition fee is a barrier to participate free of charge.

Space is limited and to qualify, recipients must live in the Greater Rochester area and have Medicaid or Managed Medicaid insurance.

To register for Jumpstart, interested parties should call Rochester Lifestyle Medicine Institute at 484-1254 (Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) or email beth.garver@roclifemed.org.
