Kappa Sigma Offering Volunteer Hours to Local Veterans Organizations
Physical Labor and Digital Assistance Available
The SUNY Brockport Kappa Sigma interest group is offering more than 1,100 hours of service on a first-come, first-served basis to local veterans organizations, including support with digital/media communications and physical labor opportunities. Veterans groups are encouraged to act quickly, as this opportunity is limited through March 1.
Philanthropy Chair, Walker Paske, said the fraternity originally approached American Legion Harsch-Crisp-Seaman Post 379 to collaborate on a Veterans Day 5K offering “sweat equity” for the post as part of their 30-hour community service pledge per member per year. Paske says the idea to expand the offer to include digital support came from discussions with a Legion member and a member of the Military Officers Association of America, who pointed out that many veterans organizations struggle with visibility in the media because their aging members don’t have the data skills necessary to set up a website or participate on various social media platforms.
“I know a lot of our members have the skills to help get these organizations professional-looking webpages,” noted Paske. “It just made sense to expand our community service to help out with the data literacy issues facing many older Americans.”
Interested veterans service organizations should contact Walker Paske at 607-365-2105 or Austin Dixon at 518-965-0395.
