Greece Animal Services Receives Grant

to Support New Shelter Standards
Funding will assist with enhanced veterinary care.
Greece Animal Services has been awarded a $34,400 grant from the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) to support the implementation of the New York State Shelter Standards that went into effect in December 2025, including expenses associated with enhanced veterinary care for animals admitted at the Town’s animal shelter. The grant will help Greece Animal Services fund essential lifesaving services such as vaccinations, parasite control, pain management, pre-adoption spaying and neutering, and on-site veterinary care, which are crucial to the organization’s operations.
“We are thrilled that Greece Animal Services has received this generous grant from the ASPCA,” said Supervisor McCann. “These funds will help us implement new shelter standards, ensuring that every animal in our care receives the highest level of safety, comfort, and well-being. This is a meaningful investment in the welfare of our community’s pets, and we are grateful for the ASPCA’s support.”
Animal Services will use the funds to support vaccination of animals with essential core vaccines (i.e., rabies, canine DAPP, Bordetella, and feline RCP), deworming, on-site veterinary care, and off-site spay and neuter surgeries. Most of the animals admitted to the shelter are lost pets that the Animal Services team attempts to reunite with their owners. Unclaimed pets are made available for adoption or transferred to partners.
The Town’s first official pet adopted was named Autumn, found at-large in a Greece neighborhood in October. Juliet, a neighbor of the person who found Autumn, contacted Animal Services about adopting Autumn if not reclaimed by the owners. Once the holding period had expired, Juliet brought in her dog, Coda, for a meet-and-greet with Autumn. A few days later, they took Autumn home to foster until the adoption was finalized in January, once Autumn was spayed. The grant will enable more pets like Autumn to receive care until they are reunited with their owners or placed in new homes.
