Greece Post Hosting 2026 NY American Legion Baseball Championship
By Erika Zobel, 1st VP, American Legion Auxiliary, Greece Post 468
What comes to mind when you hear the word “baseball”?
Is it the crack of a bat, the roar of the crowd, and the taste of a hot dog on a summer day? Perhaps it’s the stirring sound of the Star-Spangled Banner or of the timeless call of “Play Ball!”
American Legion Greece Post #468 will be hosting two championship baseball tournaments this summer. The Senior tournament will take place on July 25–29, with July 30 reserved as a rain date. In addition, the Post will host a Junior Tournament from July 31through August 2, with August 3 as an alternate date.
All baseball games will be played at Penfield High School, 25 High School Drive, Penfield. Each day will feature four games scheduled between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Attendees can enjoy on-site food vendors, and the American Legion Color Guard will proudly present the colors.
Last year, Greece Post #468’s team won the State Championship held in Rochester and went on to win the Northeast Regional Championship, earning a spot in the American Legion Baseball World Series, held each year in Smyrna, North Carolina. They finished in eighth place out of over 1,400 teams that play American Legion Baseball in the United States.
The American Legion was built upon four foundational pillars: Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth. Through these champion tournaments, the Legion continues to foster patriotism, promote strong values, and invest in the development of young people. The program emphasizes sportsmanship, healthy living, and active citizenship within our communities. Since its founding in 1925, the American Legion Baseball league has positively impacted countless lives. Notable players such as Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle, and Alex Rodriguez began their journeys on the fields of their local American Legion posts.
Perhaps this year’s tournament in Rochester will inspire the next great player, one who may go on to the major leagues and even earn a place in the Baseball Hall of Fame. One can only hope.
