Durand Eastman Park Arboretum Tour
The Master Gardeners of Monroe County Cooperative Extension, in conjunction with Monroe County Parks, will lead public tours of the historic Durand Eastman Park Arboretum on Sundays, April 26 and May 3, from 2 to 4 p.m. These informative and engaging tours will highlight the park’s rich history, dating back to its establishment in 1909, and showcase its diverse natural beauty. The route will traverse moderate hills and wooded trails, so participants should dress accordingly. There is no charge. Registration is required and can be made at https://tinyurl.com/5f7exbd5. Meet at the kiosk on Zoo Road (off Lakeshore Boulevard) next to the park maintenance center.

Chili Art Group Spring Show & Sale
Chili Art Group is holding its 2026 Spring Show & Sale at the Chili Community Center, 3237 Chili Avenue, on May 1 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., May 2 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and May 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a reception on Friday, May 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. The show is free and open to the public. Buckets & Badges
Join the Gates Police Department and Recreation Department on Saturday, May 2, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Westgate Park for Buckets & Badges. This community outreach event features pickup basketball games as well as free throw and three-point shooting contests. Free basketballs will be given out to anyone 18 and under.

Gates Greece Lions Club Geranium Sale
Orders are being taken through May 4 for the Gates Greece Lions Club’s Geranium Sale. Plants are from cuttings, so they are hardy and long-lasting. The cost is $2.50 per plant or $48 for a flat of 20. They are available in red, white, purple, pink, or variegated red. Hanging plant baskets of New Guinea impatiens or geraniums are also available for $28 (red, purple, or pink). Call 585-737-2291 to order. Make checks payable to Gates Greece Lions and mail to Diane Rutherford, 300 Dewey Street, Churchville, NY 14428. Pick up pre-orders at the Gates Town Hall, 1605 Buffalo Road, on Saturday, May 9, between 9 a.m. and noon. Money raised serves the local community.

2026 Police Week Candlelight Vigil
Join the Gates Police Department on Thursday, May 7, at 8 p.m. for their annual Police Week Candlelight Vigil. Gather on the front lawn of the Gates Town Hall to remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities. The event begins at the same time the National Candlelight Vigil occurs in Washington, D.C.

Gates Garden Club
The Gates Garden Club meets on Thursday, May 14, at 6:30 p.m. in the Gates Town Hall Annex. The discussion topic will be Garden Worthy Native Plants. Parma Public Library Spring Book Sale
Thousands of books, puzzles, DVDs, CDs, and more will be on sale at the Parma Public Library, 7 West Avenue, Hilton, during their Spring Book Sale. The sale is open Thursday, May 14, through Saturday, May 16, during regular library hours: Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Become a “Friend of the Parma Public Library” at the Checkout Table to receive a free book. Saturday is Fill Your Grocery Bag Day. The sale is sponsored by Friends of the Parma Public Library and Mainly Books. Gates Farmers Market
The 2026 Gates Farmers Market season gets underway on Sunday, May 17, with a Spring Gardener Market Kickoff. The market is held on the grounds of the Gates Town Hall, 1605 Buffalo Road, and is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first and third Sunday of the month through October 4. The Farmers Market is run by volunteers from the Gates Conservation Advisory Board/CSC Task Force, making it a free event for residents and vendors to enjoy.

Gates Historical Society Program
The Gates Historical Society meets on the third Monday of the month, March–November, at 7 p.m. at the Gates Town Hall Annex. The meetings are free, accessible, and open to the public. The May 18 program features historian Jane Oakes speaking about “Early Women Physicians of the Genesee Region.” For information, visit gateshistory.org.

Greece Recreation Family Scavenger Hunt & Picnic
Join Greece Recreation for its second annual Family Scavenger Hunt & Picnic on Friday, May 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Braddock’s Bay Lodge, 199 East Manitou Road. During this event, families will be given a scavenger map and instructions to cover the grounds of Braddock’s Bay Park, where they will find a variety of objects to bring back to base for a reward. After the hunt, enjoy a picnic dinner, playground time, and yard games. It’s a great night for the entire family. Preregistration is required at https://greeceparksrec.recdesk.com. Cost is $5 per person for residents, $10 for non-residents.
