Winter College Sports Honors
Monroe Community College freshman and Brockport HS product KhaNy Sangasy was an NJCCA All-American in women’s swimming, winning the 50-yard backstroke and was a consolation finalist in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke, and 50-yard butterfly as well as a team member on four scoring relays.
Spencerport grad and St. John Fisher men’s volleyball senior outside hitter Casey Jackson was named Third Team All-Conference. Jackson had 137 kills (1.93 per set), recorded 12 service aces, and amassed 25 total blocks (five solo) for 176 total points (2.48 per set) this season over 26 matches. He added a career-high 104 digs defensively.
Ryan Burgos (Hilton) of Edinboro University received a pre-allocation spot for the 2026 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. He was ranked 27th nationally at 165 lb. in the coaches’ rankings and 16th in RPI, with an 18-5 overall record.
Junior Collin Woods of the Roberts Wesleyan University Men’s Basketball was named a First Team All-Star from the Rochester Area United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA). Woods led the team in scoring with 15.3 points per game, rebounding (5.2 rpg), and assists (102), and was second with 41 3-pointers made.
Roberts’s sophomore Antonie Pieterse was a three-time All-American in men’s swimming, setting a school record in the 50-Freestyle, finishing seventh in the 100-Butterfly, and 15th in the 100-Freestyle.
Byron-Bergen’s Mikayla Yohon finished second in the 50, 100, and 200 Butterfly and broke the Genesee Community College program record in the 50-yard fly to help the team to a second-place finish at regionals.
Freshman Jada Mushat was named the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Rochester Area Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Year and First Team selection to the All-Rochester Area squad for the Redhawks. She led the squad with 13.4 points per contest and also ranked fifth on the team with 2.7 rebounds per game. She was third on the team with 36 assists and led the Redhawks with 64 steals.
SUNY Brockport gymnastics finished third in the nation, and three Golden Eagles earned All-America honors across five events: junior Kiara Hockman (Vault-First Team, Balance Beam-First Team, Floor Exercise-Second Team), sophomore Emma Brookins (Uneven Bars-First Team), and junior Lienna Kay (Balance Beam-Second Team).
SUNY Brockport’s Trevor Middendorf was named SUNYAC Rookie of the Year in men’s wrestling. He qualified for the national championship after a second-place finish at the NCAA Regionals in the 125 lb. division. He was the SUNYAC champion with three consecutive technical falls before pinning Cortland’s Christian Lievano at the 4:10 mark in the final.
Golden Eagle hockey’s Nick Reif was named the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year after he led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 21 points on nine goals and 12 assists in 24 games played. Reif recorded a hat-trick in his second collegiate game, on November 1 against Neumann University. Kyle Kussmann and David Filak were named Second Team All-Conference. Kussmann finished the season with a team-second-best 13 assists, while Filak racked up 510 saves on a strong 91.9 save percentage, allowing fewer than three goals per contest (2.94 GAA).
Roberts Wesleyan juniors Rebecca Spry and Abigail Barnard were named to the East Coast Conference (ECC) All-Star Third team in women’s bowling.
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste was named Empire 8 Women’s Basketball Player of the Year and Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Honorable Mention All-American, with Brianna Carey and Mandy Brink each earning Second Team All-Conference honors. Jean-Baptiste led the conference in scoring with 19 PPG on outstanding 45% shooting from the floor, adding 5.9 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. She finishes her college career in the top five in program history in career points (1,578, fourth), steals (194, second), made field goals (598, third), and made three-pointers (147, fourth). Carey averaged 11.8 PPG with 2.9 rebounds and nearly two steals per game (1.9). Brink averaged a team-second-best 13.3 PPG with nearly five rebounds per game (4.9) and led the Golden Eagles with an excellent 80.2% shooting from the foul line.
SUNY Brockport’s Pharell Aybar was named the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year and Third Team All-Conference, while veterans Jacob Oka and Camron Dyer also secured All-Conference honors. Aybar led the team with 3.2 assists per game (fifth in the E8) and averaged 11.4 points on 46% shooting. He also ranked within the conference top ten with 1.6 steals per game. Oka was tops on the Golden Eagles in points (13.0 PPG), rebounds (6.2 RPG), and steals (2.0 SPG). Dyer averaged 13.0 points and 5.1 rebounds, ranking second on the team in scoring, rebounding, and assists (2.2 APG).
