Night at the Museums Returns to Brockport

Explore Local History at Eight Locations
Eight local history museums in the Brockport area will open their doors to welcome visitors on Saturday, May 30, from 4 to 8 p.m. for their Night at the Museums event. This free, family-friendly event allows visitors to drop by each museum throughout the evening.

Brockport Community Museum, A Museum Without Walls: Includes exhibits and displays throughout the community, with 14 historic markers and panels in Brockport and seven in Clarkson. A new interpretive panel on Brockport’s Main Street Lift Bridge will be dedicated during a brief presentation at 4 p.m. in front of the Brockport Post Office at 14 Main Street. BCM will have a table at this location from 4 to 8 p.m. and will be giving out free BCM 2026 calendars while supplies last. Donations are welcome.
Brockport Museum & Library of Local History at 49 State Street: Located on the second and third floors of the former Seymour family home, BLMMH is an educational institution with a mission to collect, preserve, and provide access to the heritage and history of the greater Brockport community. Exhibits include a “street of shops” evoking Victorian Main Street, a vintage dentist office, and a room dedicated to Brockport’s best-selling author, Mary Jane Holmes.

Capen Hose Co. No. 4 Fire Museum at 237 Main Street: Constructed in 1905 to provide fire protection to the Brockport community, the former firehouse is now a museum that houses a collection of Brockport firefighting apparatus, equipment, and uniforms dating back to the late 1800s. The site is also home to the Firefighters Memorial Monument, modeled after an iconic photograph taken at Ground Zero during the aftermath of September 11, 2001.

Clarkson Academy at 8343 Ridge Road (east of Route 19): In 2003, the Clarkson Historical Society restored this vacant academy, adding period-style desks and chalkboards, and now hosts field trips, a cursive writing summer camp, and evening programs. Those age 18 and older who stop by can submit an entry in an Adult Cursive Handwriting Contest. Entries will be judged by children who have learned cursive writing at CHS’s summer camp, and the winner will receive a free 2026-2027 membership to the Clarkson Historical Society.
Harford House Barn and Livery Museum at 15 South Lake Road, Bergen: This 1880s barn features life-size exhibits of a blacksmith shop, a general store, a school classroom, and more.
Morgan-Manning House at 151 Main Street – This iconic 20-room structure was built in 1854 and belonged to D.S. Morgan’s family for 100 years. Having survived a fire in January 2025, the landmark is being restored, but the Western Monroe Historical Society welcomes visitors to its outdoor tent located on the grounds.Seymour Library at 161 East Avenue: The Local History Room opened in 2015 with archival collections and mini museums.

Town of Sweden Farmers Museum at 4988 Lake Road South: This museum highlights agricultural developments, promotes local farming, and features a restored 1820s farmhouse with a barn built in the 1880s.
