Churchville-Chili Seniors Earn Seal of Biliteracy

Churchville-Chili Central School District participates in the New York State Seal of Biliteracy (NYSSB), which recognizes high school graduates who have attained a high level of proficiency in English and one or more world languages. Seals were earned in French and Spanish.

This year, 26 graduating seniors have earned the Seal of Biliteracy: Gavin Bonnewell, Kahlia Boyle, Katie Chesher, Caleb Comas, Nathan DelGudico, Lydia Eddy, McKenzie Elliott, Maren Freece, Julia Gaffney, Brooke Giles, Ashlee Hiser, Annie La, Malena Leastman, Bianca LiBritz, Sloane Miller, Greta Morgan, Jaise Newman, Dylan Percassi, Juliana Reyes, Julián Samalot Monroig, Alex Sikorski, Taylor Stocks, Paige Sugarman, Cameron Vorndran, Melana Willard, and Tessa Wood

Three students, Lydia Eddy, McKenzie Elliott, and Sloane Miller, earned the Seal of Biliteracy in both French and Spanish.

The intent of the NYSSB is to encourage the study of languages, to identify high school graduates with language and biliteracy skills for employers, to provide universities with additional information about applicants seeking admission and placement, to prepare students with twenty-first-century skills, to recognize the value of language instruction, and to affirm the value of diversity in a multilingual society.

Successful candidates earn three points in English and three points in each world language, as determined by a points matrix that includes course grades, national and state exams, transcripts, and culminating projects.

The NYSSB takes the form of a Seal on the student’s diploma, a certificate of achievement, and a medallion worn at graduation.
