Daniel Murphy named Hickok Belt® Award winner for October 2015

Daniel Murphy, second baseman for Major League Baseball’s New York Mets has been named the Hickok Belt® Award winner for the month of October 2015. Voting was conducted by a select panel of members of the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NSSA). The voters selected Murphy based on his outstanding performance during the National League Playoffs – a stretch in which he hammered a record seven home runs.  In the NLCS, Murphy hit .529, including four of his seven homers in leading the Mets to the 2015 World Series.

Other finalists for the month of October in order of how the NSSA voters ranked them included: Tom Brady (football), Victor Espinosa (horse racing), Jeurys Familia (baseball), Jamie Benn (hockey), DeAndre Hopkins (football), Novak Djokovic (tennis), Frederica Brignone (skiing), Lexi Thompson (golf) and Agnieszka Rodwanska (tennis).

His selection as the Hickok Belt® Award winner for the month of October 2015 recognizes Murphy as “the best of the best” in professional sports for the month and makes him the eighth candidate eligible to receive the overall Hickok Belt® Award for 2015, joining Tom Brady, James Harden, Jordan Spieth, Bryce Harper, LeBron James, Carli Lloyd and Jake Arrieta.
