Brockport Timebank plans new events
Spring cleaning and guidance on household and personal waste reduction will be the focus of two events hosted in April by members of the Brockport Timebank and Center for a New American Dream of WNY.
Member/organizer Jena Buckwell says the media swap held earlier this year by the Timebank was a great success and two new events are planned for April in the Duryea Room at the Seymour Library in Brockport.
A Waste Reduction Workshop on Saturday, April 2 from 11 a.m. to noon will focus on an introduction to simplifying your life through personal waste reduction.
The workshop will be followed on Saturday, April 23 with a Community “Homegoods” open swap from 10:30 a.m. until noon.
“The personal waste reduction class will be focused on helping people generate less waste through the ‘5Rs’ – refuse, reduce, reuse, rot and recycle,” Buckwell says. “We’ll talk about both the why and how of personal waste reduction, including reducing what participants currently own and gaining control over how they consume in the future.”
Buckwell will be conducting the workshop, which includes an activity and Q&A time.
“The household swap will be an excellent opportunity for participants from the Waste Reduction class, as well as the general public, to participate in the sharing economy, while simultaneously getting rid of some of the items in their own homes that are not useful to them and letting someone else enjoy and make use of them.”
Both events are free and open to all, Buckwell says. All items remaining from the swap will be donated.
“Participating in both the class and swap would certainly help attendees get the most out of the series, but neither is required to attend the other,” she said.
