At its regular meeting on April 12, the Hilton Central School District Board of Education adopted a $79.9 million budget proposal for the 2016-17 school year. This is a 3.97 percent increase over last year’s budget, which will result in an estimated 0.4 percent tax rate decrease in all district towns if approved by voters on May 17. The decrease in the tax rate is due to additional state aid.
“I am proud of this year’s proposed budget. The process was transparent and valued all stakeholders’ input,” said Superintendent Casey Kosiorek. “This proposed plan is responsible to the taxpayers and also provides great opportunities for our students.”
The adopted budget qualifies Hilton School District residents for a property tax rebate because it is under the state imposed Property Tax Levy Cap. For most property owners, this serves as approximately three percent of their annual school taxes paid.
Details of the budget will be available on the Hilton District website at www.hilton.k12.ny.us/budget-profile.htm. Residents will receive a budget newsletter through the mail in May and a list of budget presentations will be posted on the website.
On Tuesday, May 17, district residents can vote on the budget proposition as well as a $1,373,294 bus purchase proposition and four open positions on the Board of Education. Voters will select three board members to serve three-year terms and one board member to serve the remaining two years of Dan Wellington’s term. The terms of Michelle Ames, Barbara Cutrona and Nancy Pickering will expire June 30.
Polls located at Hilton High School (Parma, Clarkson and Hamlin residents) and Northwood Elementary School (Greece residents) will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Voters must be registered with the Monroe County Board of Elections or with District Clerk Julie Norris (392-1000, ext. 7099) to vote on May 17. Handicapped accessible parking is available.
