Antique fire engine group to hold parade and muster
In 2020, the Genesee Valley Antique Fire Apparatus Association planned to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its formation by hosting a national SPAAMFAA (Society for the Preservation and Appreciation of Antique Motorized Fire Apparatus in America) four-day convention in Rochester. COVID-19 ended all the planning and support for that event.
Now, the association is going to celebrate its 40th anniversary of becoming a chartered member of the national organization with a parade, a muster, and a chapter celebration picnic on Sunday, August 29, at the Spencerport Firemen’s Field along the canal in the village. The site is important in that it is where the first local antique apparatus enthusiasts met and decided to form an association.
The parade of antique fire engines will leave Spencerport High School at 10 a.m. and proceed down Lyell Avenue to Union Street, and then into the muster site where the celebration will begin with plenty of fun for all. Events will include antique fire rigs on display to inspect and enjoy, old engines pumping from the canal, public safety displays, explorer competitions, children’s activities, a flea market, food, and much more. Following an opening ceremony, the muster will continue until 3 p.m. when the chapter will gather for a 40th anniversary picnic.
