Spencerport business community grows

New businesses and growing businesses along Union Street in Spencerport

Expansion increases options.

Page Countryside opened its new Sit’n Sleep Shop at the end of November.

Located at 421 South Union Street adjacent to the Kitchen, Bath and Appliances showroom, the Sit’n Sleep Shop features a 4,500 square feet showroom filled with sleeping and sitting furniture options from mattresses to recliners and sofas to dining room sets.
Page Countryside president Curt Kenyon says the sit’n sleep concept has proven to be successful elsewhere, but, “has never been in the Rochester area.”  With the opening of the shop, customers can now find nearly everything they need for major home interior purchases in one location.

It was just a year ago that Kenyon purchased Page Appliances, Inc. and merged the company with Countryside Cabinetworks.  There had been a mattress shop at Page Appliances, Kenyon says, but many customers didn’t realize it.

Now, with the opening of the Sit’n Sleep portion of the business, Kenyon has expanded the selection of mattresses from 14 to 34 models and made the product line more visible to the public.

Page Countryside sells primarily Serta and Restonic (which are manufactured in  Buffalo) mattresses, Kenyon notes.
“We try to keep our primary suppliers local,” he says. Page Countryside also sells Candlelight Cabinetry which is made in Lockport.

Kenyon says the Sit’n Sleep Shop is building up its inventory and response “has been great.”

Page Countryside has nearly 25 employees, Kenyon says, and with the merger offers customers a breadth of products and services ranging from, “kitchen and bath remodeling, kitchen and bath design, and appliances with expanded offerings,” he explains.

In addition to Serta and Restonic mattresses, the Sit’n Sleep Shop offers name brand manufacturers like Majestic Sleep, Fashion Bed, Signature Design by Ashley and BenchCraft.  Kenyon says customers can find the same items in Spencerport that can be found at Ashley Direct locations.

The Kitchen and Bath Appliance Showroom at 415 South Union has undergone extensive renovations to its 5,900 square feet showroom with new kitchen and bath  displays, flooring displays and expanded appliance selections which include GE Monogram, KitchenAid and Samsung.

Complete kitchen and bath design and installation services are offered by direct employees – not subcontractors – Kenyon notes.

“Both companies were built on service,” he says of Page Appliances and  Countryside Cabinetworks. “We are truly providing our customers with an  experience as our motto implies – ‘What you can’t get anywhere else.’ With the merger of the companies, we now offer a one stop shop for just about every major purchase for the home, ultimately saving our customers time and  money.”
And the little bird in its nest that is part of the Page Countryside logo? It’s a reference to “nesting” Kenyon explains – something which Page Countryside can help customers accomplish in every room of their own “nest.”

OM Yoga
Kari Cameron decided to get certified as a Yoga instructor – and opening her own studio was the next natural step. She saw the downtown location at 131 South Union Street in the heart of the downtown Spencerport business district which now houses her studio while scouting out places to open her business, she knew it would be perfect. Classes and apparel are part of Om Yoga.

New inspiration
If the new year is inspiring you to try something new to help nourish your mind, regenerate your spirit and increase health, flexibility and strength, you might want to sign up for a class at Om Yoga, LLC, which opened in early December. It is located at 131 South Union Street in the heart of the downtown Spencerport business district.

Kari Cameron is the owner and an instructor at Om Yoga. She says she wanted to open her business in the community in which she lives and in which her children go to school.

“I looked only in this direction,” she says, “I wanted to do this in my own community.”

Cameron only recently turned to Yoga as a profession. She had worked in aging services/assisted living for years, but felt she had hit a wall professionally. It was difficult, she explains, but she quit her job with no idea what she would do next.
“I had lost touch with my spirit and soul – what I wanted,” she says.

A friend suggested she should try going back to a Yoga class and Cameron did.

“I realized I felt the best when I was on my mat, reconnecting with the spirit and soul,” she recalls.

Cameron decided to get certified as a Yoga instructor – and opening her own studio was the next natural step. When she saw the downtown location which now houses her studio while scouting out places to open her business, she knew it would be perfect.
“When I decided to open a studio, I just knew it would be a success,” she says.  “This has been the easiest thing I have ever done. I have great faith we picked the right location.”

The autumn of 2013 was spent renovating and decorating the studio.

“You need a certain energy,” she says of a Yoga studio. “When you walk in the door, it has to have a positive, welcoming energy.  I hope that comes across as people come in.”

During the renovation work, Cameron says people would stop in and say they  were glad there was going to be a Yoga studio in Spencerport.

People are coming from Churchville, Hamlin, Hilton, Brockport and  Spencerport for classes, Cameron says.

Om Yoga offers different styles of Yoga, Cameron explains – Power Vinyasa – both beginner and expanded, as well as Restorative Yoga. Gentle Kripalu Yoga and Building Blocks of Yoga classes are also offered.

Cameron says she is looking into the possibility of offering mommy and me and baby Yoga classes in the near future.

She notes that Yoga has, “countless benefits – spiritual, physical and emotional – for all age groups.”

Classes at Om Yoga last one hour and 15 minutes and Cameron says that time is “about a gift you give to yourself.”  Yoga – unlike a typical workout – allows you to center on yourself – and not let your mind wander to other responsibilities or worries, she says.
“This nurtures me,” Cameron says of Yoga. “I’m thrilled to share it with other people. To give one hour and 15 minutes of you to you is so important.”

In addition to Cameron, Om Yoga’s staff of instructors includes Nick Vicari, Jill FitzSimmons, Elise Hughey, and Jake Massey.
“We have a great staff,” Cameron observes, “They are knowledgeable, talented and equally in love with Yoga as I am.”

Classes are $12 per class, $69.99 unlimited for the month, or $100 for a 10 class pass.

Om Yoga also has a selection of clothing, mats and other accessories available for purchase at the studio.
