Guild presents first Quilt of Valor

The Hilton Heart and Hand Quilt Guild presented their first Quilt of Valor to US Army Specialist Shane Luther in August. This quilt was the first Quilts of Valor project donated by the group to a veteran soldier who recently completed his tour of duty where he served in Afghanistan.
The Quilts of Valor foundation’s mission is to cover all combat service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing quilts of valor. Guild members Sarah Barton, Patricia Buskey, Janet Wiler, Ann Kramer and Charlotte Bimmler gathered together to sew and piece the quilt top. Machine quilting was done on a long arm quilting machine by member Merrilee MacWilliam. This quilt was displayed in July at the Parma Public Library where there was a patriotic show of the guild’s work which focused on “What America Means to Me.” Hilton Heart and Hand Quilt plans to continue to donate quilts to the QOV Foundation annually.
The Heart and Hand Quilt Guild’s mission is to promote, educate and encourage others in the art of quilt making. The guild has given back to the community in various ways, such as donating compassion quilts to local hospitals and nursing homes, and making heart pillows for patients in local hospitals. Locally, the guild gives back to the Hilton community by donating to the Parma Public Library, Parma Food Pantry, Hamlin Food Cupboard, and the Hilton Fire Department.
For information about the Hilton Heart and Hand Quilt Guild, please contact President Mary Hinkley at 392-4153. The guild meets on the first Thursday of the month at the Hilton Baptist Church at 6:30 p.m. New members and guest are welcome.
