Rochester Museum & Science Center celebrates Iroquois culture November 4 and 5

Visitors to the Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC) can celebrate Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) culture – past and present – with artisans from the community. An annual event, Haudenosaunee Days take place from 12 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 4 and Sunday, November 5, 2017.

Learn first-hand about the tradition of making cornhusk dolls, jewelry, bead work, and baskets from local Haudenosaunee artists as they bring the traditions of their culture to life through their art. Hear storytellers and join RMSC educators to learn more through the museum’s world-renowned collection.

With staff and volunteers, get an up-close view of artifacts rarely on display for the public, including art from the Works Progress Administration (WPA) Indian Arts Project.

This program is funded by grants from the New York State Council of the Arts (NYSCA) and the New York Council for the Humanities.

The Haudenosaunee Days program is free with regular museum admission: $14 adults, $13 seniors and college students with ID, $12 ages 3 to 18, free for children under 3 and RMSC members. For group reservations and rates, call 585.697.1942.
