“Dialogue on Disability” runs January 14-20

WXXI and Al Sigl Community of Agencies celebrate people of all abilities and promote a more inclusive community with “Dialogue on Disability: The Herman & Margaret Schwartz Community Series.” Running January 14 through 20, the week-long programming initiative on WXXI TV, radio, and at the Little Theatre is designed to encourage community discussion about the perspectives and abilities of people with physical and intellectual disabilities.

New to “Dialogue on Disability” this year, WXXI and Al Sigl will host a listening session of the award-winning podcast Exited on Monday, January 14 at 6 p.m. at Al Sigl’s Golisano Campus, 1000 Elmwood Avenue, Door 1, Rochester. Produced by WXXI News’ Inclusion Desk, Exited shares the journey of eight young people with disabilities as they transition into adulthood. This listening session will specifically focus on college-based programs for students with intellectual disabilities. It is free with no reservations needed. Seats are first come, first served.

WXXI and Al Sigl will also present a free screening of “Perfectly Normal for Me” on Tuesday, January 15 at 6 p.m. at The Little, 240 East Avenue, Rochester. The documentary follows four charismatic kids who strive for acceptance in a world that is often, at best, indifferent to them. The screening will be followed by a question and answer session with the director Catherine Tambini via Skype. No tickets required. Seats are first come, first served.

In addition to the listening session and the screening, WXXI will present prime time specials on WXXI-TV and community conversations on AM 1370/ WRUR-FM. To learn more about the series and for a complete list of all the programming, visit wxxi.org/dod.
