Red Cross graduates Youth Leadership honorees

On June 24, the Greater Rochester Chapter of the American Red Cross of Western New York held a drive-in ceremony for the graduating class of the 2021 Youth Leadership program. This year, 32 high school students in grades nine through 12 were recognized for their participation in the months-long program designed to foster leadership and inclusivity. The students represented 14 high schools across Monroe County.

Due to COVID-19 protocol, the entirety of this year’s Youth Leadership program was held in a virtual setting. The drive-thru ceremony held on the big screen in the chapter parking lot marked the first time students came together, along with their families, in a tailgate-type setting.

“The American Red Cross of Western New York is proud to recognize the graduating class of the 2021 Youth Leadership program,” said James Love, Executive Director, Greater Rochester chapter. “By rising to the occasion during a challenging time in our nation’s history, this group of talented individuals not only embodied the spirit of the Red Cross mission but proved they have what it takes to be the leaders of tomorrow. Congratulations to all on a job well done!”

Throughout the course of the program, students participated in 18 workshops, including preparedness training, team building, conflict resolution, time management, interviewing 101, and event planning. Curriculum also included a six-week partnership with Junior Achievement and the Junior Achievement Rapid Business program, which culminated in the pitching and presentation of group-developed business plans.

Applications for the 2022 cohort will be available this October, and the application process will run through January. For information on the Youth Leadership Program, contact Kristen.Clineburg@redcross.org.
