Urban AG Working Group (UAWG) announces 2022 Spring Gardening Conference
Saturday May 7 • 10-3 at Edison Career & Technology High School, 655 Colfax Street, Rochester 14606
UAWG is pleased to announce that, following two years of Covid shutdowns, we are bringing back the annual Spring Gardening Conference. We invite all who are interested in gardening, from novice newbies to seasoned gardeners and anyone in-between. There is no fee to attend, no one will be turned away. Those who wish to make a contribution may do so at the conference registration, either by check or cash.
Chaw Chang, farmer at Stick & Stone Farm in Ithaca, New York will be the keynote speaker, sponsored by Harvest New York. Chaw will talk about how his interest in gardening led to starting and developing a 125 acre organic farm. He will then join a panel of community gardeners/urban growers from around western NY to discuss what is happening in other areas and creative projects we might want to try here in Rochester.
Registration will open at 9am. Please park near and enter at Entry #10 on the east (Colfax Street) side of the building. There is a handicap accessible ramp for access into the building and an elevator to take you to the second floor.
Lunch will be provided, free of charge, compliments of Foodlink. There will be several tables inside the lunch area for you to visit, including free soil pH & texture tests provided by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Monroe County and a seed swap open to everyone. Cornell Soil Lab will be present with their display on Soil Aggregate Stability.
Following lunch there will be eight workshops/presentations to choose from, four from 1-2 and four more from 2-3. Workshops will discuss a variety of topics, including Organic Gardening 101 and How to Grow your Own Mushrooms. The conference will end at 3 pm. We wish to thank Edison Career & Technology High School for their gracious use of their school facility for the conference.
