Front Steps Project comes to Hamlin

Aquinas High School senior and amateur photographer Julia Mungenast first heard about the Front Steps Project in Westside News after reading about army veteran and visual studies graduate student, Christopher Cilento, providing photography to residents and businesses in Spencerport. The project originated with a photographer in Massachusetts who came up with the idea of offering free pictures at a distance to families in her town during this global pandemic. The idea gained national momentum and has now reached the Hamlin/Clarkson area.

“I love photography and really miss my photography classes at Aquinas. This idea seemed perfect to do what I love while bringing community together for a good cause,” Julia said. As a lifelong Hamlin resident, Julia wanted to do something to help bring together the community she loves during this difficult time.

By appointment, Julia uses her zoom lens to provide outdoor photography to families and businesses in the Hamlin and Clarkson area from a safe distance of 10 feet away. “Spring is such a pretty time to have pictures taken outdoors,” said Julia. Photos are sent electronically or through the Facebook page The Front Steps Project Hamlin-Clarkson. There is no fee for the photography, but Julia asks that anyone who can afford, to make a small donation to either Hamlin Life Solutions (local food pantry) or the Hamlin Dog Shelter.

If you live in the Hamlin, Clarkson, or Kendall area and would like your family or business photographed during this unprecedented time, message Julia on the Facebook event page, Instagram, or email her at jmungenast@gmail.com.
