Food-drive held in Ogden to coincide with mask distribution

Monroe County Legislator Mike Zale (R-Greece, Ogden, Sweden) will be partnering with the Town of Ogden to host two curbside mask distribution and food-drive events at the Ogden Town Hall, 269 Ogden, Center Road, Spencerport, on Saturday, May 9, and Wednesday, May 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Voluntary food donations will be collected to benefit the Monroe County Veterans Service Agency.

“As a lifelong member of this community, the residents here in Ogden are more than just my neighbors,” said Zale. “I’ve heard and continue to hear of the struggles and fears many residents are having as a result of the current situation. These events will help provide critical items, such as masks, food and basic necessities, to those most in need including our local veterans.”

The county-wide mask distribution ensures that all residents have access to masks allowing easier compliance with the New York State mandated use of face coverings when social distancing protocols cannot be followed. “The Town of Ogden is honored to partner with Monroe County to safely distribute this personal protective equipment to our residents,” said Chief Mears, Ogden Police Chief. “It is important to remember that we wear face coverings to protect others, as well as ourselves.”

Due to the current COVID-19 situation, there is an increased need for canned goods and basic necessities for local veterans. The Monroe County Veterans Service Agency has identified the following items as being currently in demand: canned goods and/or non-perishable foods items, canned fruit, macaroni and cheese, baby formula and size 3 diapers. A food donation is not required to receive masks being distributed as part of the Monroe County initiative.
