Sweden prepares CARES Act application

The Town of Sweden is preparing a CARES Act grant application in order to construct a new Senior Room at the Sweden/Clarkson Community Center. CARES Act grants are intended to fund projects that help prevent and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. The proposed Senior Room will be approximately double the size of the existing dedicated Senior Room to allow seniors to maintain appropriate social distancing. The Senior Room will have windows and a ventilation system that will better clean the air. A hand washing station will be incorporated into the room to facilitate frequent hand washing. The Senior Room will be located directly off the front of the lobby eliminating the need for seniors to walk through other populations, thus reducing close contact. Plans for the Senior Room include two single-occupancy handicapped accessible restrooms, ensuring adequate social distancing during seniors’ restroom visits.

The Sweden Town Board is holding a public hearing regarding the CARES Act grant application on Tuesday, May 11, at 6:45 p.m. at the Sweden Town Hall, 18 State Street. Written comments on the proposal will be taken through Friday, May 14. The Sweden Town Hall is handicapped accessible. For information or additional accommodations, call the Supervisor’s office at 637-7588.
