Bill Selke receives Willie W. Lightfoot Youth Advocate of the Year Award

Each year, adults and young adults are recognized for dedication and selfless contributions to our community with the Young Citizen of the Year and Willie W. Lightfoot Youth Advocate of the Year Awards.

The 2021 Willie W. Lightfoot Youth Advocate of the Year Award highlighted some exceptional individuals this year. A lifetime resident of Monroe County and long-time North Greece resident, William “Bill” Selke, was recently nominated and recognized by Monroe County Legislator Blake Keller on behalf of the County Legislature for his genuine passion and commitment to changing the world by making a positive and lasting mark on the lives of area youth. At 90 years old, this passion has never been stronger.

Selke is known for his vital role in many local groups and events across Monroe County, including the Youth Advisory Board, Intergenerational Fishing Day, the Youth Bureau Senior Holiday Ball, the Greece Kiwanis Festival of Youth, and more.

Although COVID-19 and poor weather conditions led to the eventual cancellation of the ceremony, Selke was able to receive his award from Legislator Keller at the Parma Town Hall.
