Sweden forms short-term rental committee

The Town of Sweden has formed a committee to study the effects of short-term rentals on residential neighborhoods. Chaired by Supervisor Kevin Johnson, the committee includes three residents and the town building inspector. These types of rentals are generally found on sites like VRBO or Airbnb. The Sweden building department and Town Board have received complaints about one particular short-term rental that neighbors feel is disruptive.

The committee held its first meeting on March 22 and reviewed information supplied by General Code, the Association of Towns, and other municipalities that have adopted a code pertaining to short-term rentals. At the end of the study, the committee may or may not recommend the adoption of a new Sweden town code. Prior to the adoption of any change to the Town code, the Sweden Town Board must hold a public hearing.
