New Year’s resolutions to quit tobacco
As we move toward a new year, many of us seek ways to improve health or make changes in our lives for the better through New Year’s resolutions.
Quitting tobacco is one of the five most common resolutions among people who set one for the new year. Some studies show that making a resolution to quit tobacco results in a person being three times more successful than those who do not set a resolution. Additional boosts toward success can come from discussing quitting tobacco with your doctor or health care team, and many doctors and nurses are well equipped to share information and resources that can lead to quitting for good.
If you smoke, now is the time to consider making this a change in your life. Quitting tobacco significantly decreases the possibility of many negative health outcomes. There are many resources and programs available to increase your success with quitting tobacco.
If you are considering quitting smoking or vaping, talk with your doctor and contact the New York State Smokers’ Quitline at 1-866-NY-QUITS (866-697-8487) or http://www.nysmokefree.com, to quit vaping, text DITCHVAPE to 88709.
