Fred E. Strauss

•Strauss, Fred E., Greece, NY: Passed away peacefully July 17th on his 88th birthday. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Alice (Schlotz) Strauss and siblings, Theresa (Wynne, Rappleye), Frank Strauss and Gerard Strauss. Survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Marcia Strauss, and many nieces and nephews spanning over three generations.

A WW II veteran and long-time local banking executive, retiree and former Regional President of Manufacturers Hanover, Fred was instrumental in the opening of Greece’s Park Ridge Hospital in the mid-’70’s and served in many of it’s and Unity’s leadership positions including Chairman of both the Hospital and Foundation Boards. He was also a member and leader of several other community health related Boards, and was the former Chairman of Nazareth College and Rochester Community Baseball Boards. Fred also found the time to provide valued leadership as Founder and former President of the Greece Rotary Club, Founder and former President of the Greece Volunteer Ambulance Service, Commissioner of the Ridge Road Fire District, Chairman of the Greece Fire Council, President of the Greece Chamber of Commerce, President of Ridgemont Country Club, President of Monroe County’s Lilac Festival, and contributed other valued service to many other local organizations and businesses. He was also the Republican candidate for the New York State Assembly in 1965. A very special thanks to all of Uncle Fred’s caregivers over the past seven weeks at Unity Hospital, Strong Memorial Hospital, and Hildebrandt Hospice.

Friends may call at Arndt Funeral Home, 1118 Long Pond Rd. (south of Maiden Lane) on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Tuesday at St. John the Evangelist Church (Ridge Rd. W.). Entombment will be at White Haven Memorial Park.
