Peter C. DeToy

Brockport: Peter passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023, after a 7-year battle with cancer.

He is predeceased by his parents Alfred and Jessie. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years and best friend Gail. He is also survived by three children Michael (Laurel) DeToy, Suzanne (David) Eshenour and Kerry (David) Blask, 6 grandchildren, and sister Jacqueline (Dexter) Nowak.

Peter led a happy and busy life. Joining the NY Army National Guard at age 15 and served for 8 years. He then was appointed to the New York State Police as a Trooper in June of 1962, he served honorably until retirement in 1982. He then enjoyed a second career as an insurance investigator for another 20 years. He was active in his community, he was a life member of the Brockport Volunteer Fire Department, a two term Village of Brockport Village Board Trustee. Past Commander of Brockport American Legion Post 379. He and Gail were members of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church for 60 years, where for over 20 years he was a lector and served on the Mt. Olivet Cemetery Board. Peter was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was a Grand Knight and Fourth Degree Faithful Navigator. He and Gail enjoyed camping for over 30 years, and spent the last decade in Florida where they made many friends. He enjoyed golf and refereed several sports. He was very proud of his grandchildren and their achievements.

Family will receive friends on Sunday August 20th from 3-6 pm at the Fowler Funeral Home Inc. 340 West Ave., Brockport. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday August 21st at 10 AM in Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 152 Main St., Brockport. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute to Strong Memorial Hospital Palliative Care or to the Aurora House.
