Riga residents look to officials for water
Residents in the Town of Riga were hoping that when the Mill Seat Landfill came in that money would begin flowing toward efforts to hook all residents into a townwide water system. more

Seymour Library welcomes new children's librarian

St. Rocco's centennial commemorated during annual festival
One hundred years ago, Italian immigrants, some of whom were master stonecutters, volunteered their time and talent to build St. Rocco Church in Hulberton using red sandstone from local quarries. more

Here Came The Steeple
The steeple of the Ogden Presbyterian Church was removed in 2001, owing to age and weather deterioration of the roof. In the interim, a committee was formed to investigate designs and options for a replacement. The group consisted of Steve Shelley, Bob Wallace, Jim Frieday, Tim Cassidy and Harry Pittman. more

Hunter Safety course offered in Kendall
The Town of Kendall Recreation Department hosts a Hunter Safety Course for any interested persons. Completion of this course is required for anyone 11 years of age or older wishing to obtain a license to hunt with gun. more

New pastor welcomed
The First Baptist Church in Chili will welcome its new pastor Rev. Nancy Leport on September 3. Leport has supplied the pulpit several Sundays for worship during the last year. more

Lakeside Memorial Hospital's ongoing "Pop Your Top for Lakeside" drive received pop can tops from students of the Brockport Migrant Education Project. more

Orleans County election districts consolidated for primary
According to Orleans County Election Commissioners Helen Zelazny and Dennis Piedimonte, election districts for the September 12 primary election will be consolidated. Polls will open at noon and close at 9 p.m. more

Hilton's Quest named International
Baccalaureate Primary Years program school

Quest Elementary School in Hilton has achieved another milestone in its curriculum of inquiry-based learning. In July, the 400 pupil school was authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP). Quest is only the second school in New York state to receive the designation and joins hundreds of other schools across the world to offer the interdisciplinary elementary-age program. more

Holley Board appoints new elementary principal
The Holley Board of Education has appointed Lee Ann Cervini as elementary school principal. Cervini began her new position on August 14. more

School meal prices remain the same
The price of meals purchased at Spencerport schools will remain the same for the 2006-07 school year, according to Director of Food Services Denise Kelley. Breakfast for all grade levels is $1, lunch for students in grades K-5 is $1.85, and for students in grades 6-12, $2. Under its health and wellness effort, the district sells 1 percent, skim and 1 percent chocolate milk for 50 cents. more

Senator Maziarz helps district
create "21st Century Learning Tool

State Senator George Maziarz is being credited for his assistance with a Spencerport schools' project to develop a "21st century tool for 21st century learning" that will benefit students, parents and teachers for years. more

Training sessions set for Spencerport school volunteers
The Volunteer Office welcomes new and returning parents, friends and community residents to volunteer in Spencerport schools. Participants can attend one of the information and training sessions: Mornings - September 19, 21 or 27; for returning volunteers: 9 to 9:45 a.m.; for new volunteers 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. more

Area swimmers find gold at Empire State Games
Although the majority of events were held in Rochester, the Empire State Games swimming competition took place at 50 meter Tuttle North Pool at State University, Brockport, July 28-30. more

Donor funds new scoreboard
Local business owner Jonathan Mendez of Merchant Street Smokehouse, donated $500 to the Brockport Eagles Football Club. more

From Brockport High to Georgetown University
Kevin Kelly played quarterback at Brockport High School from 1975-1977 under Dahn Walrath before playing three seasons at Springfield College. Following a 21-year journey as a collegiate assistant coach at various stops around the country, the former Blue Devil enters his first season as a head football coach this fall with the Georgetown Hoyas. more

Memorial soccer tournament scheduled
Boys and girls varsity and JV soccer teams from Aquinas, Brockport, Churchville-Chili, Olympia, Spencerport and Hilton will participate in the two-day Kevin Steinmetz Memorial Soccer Tournament. more
