Spencerport sweethearts celebrate a love lasting 65 years
When asked what the secret is to having a successful marriage, Jean Kent smiled and replied, “Don’t go to bed angry.” In January, Jean and Dick Kent celebrated 65 years of marriage. Married at the young ages of 17 and 21, respectively, this Spencerport couple has lived a lifetime of memories. more

Asset Club hosts Locks of Love event
Locks of Love is a not-for-profit organization that provides the highest quality hair prosthetics to financially disadvantaged children with medical hair loss. The Brockport High School Asset Club is looking for individuals who have 10 inches or more of hair and would be willing to donate it to Locks of Love. The Asset Club is also seeking volunteer hairdressers, masseuses, make-up professionals and photographers. more

College leads county jails initiative
Genesee Community College is one of 13 national recipients, and the only college, to receive a U.S. Department of Education Life Skills for State and Local Prisoners grant. The college hopes to develop a model that can be used to further rural jail postsecondary education transition efforts, both in western New York and throughout the nation. more

Department of Theatre marks a milestone
In the fall of 1967, the doors of SUNY Brockport's Tower Fine Arts Center opened for the first time, ushering in a new era in arts education on the campus of SUNY College at Brockport. With that gesture, the doors were also opening on a newly organized Department of Theatre. In the 40 years that have passed, the department has experienced highs and lows that have helped increase its fortitude to stand tall amongst both other departments and theatrical tradition, according to college personnel. more

Senior Bash '07 volunteers invited to kick off meeting
The kickoff and organizational meeting for the Spencerport High School Senior Bash has been rescheduled to Tuesday, February 13 at 7 p.m. in Room 140/Centrum at the high school. Parents, students and anyone interested in reviving the Senior Bash for the Class of 2007 are encouraged to attend. more

State Senator George D. Maziarz and other elected officials have called for local student entries for the 16th annual "I*MA*GREEN*NATION" Celebration, a statewide competition that encourages student awareness of environmental issues. more

SUNY Brockport's book drive donates 1,000 books
The State University of New York College at Brockport will launch its book drive - "Have a Heart. Give a Book." Campaign, which will run through February 23. The goal of the book drive is to put a new book in the hands of 1,000 local children at the Brockport Central School District, the Brockport Child Development Center and the Rochester City School District, including School #5. more
