Bergen Public Library receives grant
To area libraries will receive a combined $76,000 in public library construction funds as part of a one-time allocation of $14 million in capital funds provided by the New York State Legislature in the 2006-2007 State Budget. Brockport presents '07-'08 budget
A budget for 2007-08 that comes without a tax increase was presented to the audience of eight Village of Brockport residents March 19. According to proposed figures, taxpayers in the village will see a tax bill with a rate of $9.83 per $1,000 of assessed value - the same as the current year. more

Groups encourage individuals to give the cars a rest
SUNY Brockport's Welcome Center and Parking Services along with the Village of Brockport's Walk! Bike! Brockport! group is co-hosting its 2nd annual week-long event encouraging drivers to give their cars a rest and walk or bike to school and/or work. It is planned for April 23 to 27. more

Greater Rochester International Airport

The Geriatric Pilots Association sponsored the building of a model of the 1911 D-3 Glenn Curtiss Pusher airplane which was displayed to the public on March 15, at the Greater Rochester International Airport. more

Resident wants stop sign removed
Less than one month after they were installed, a resident of the Village of Brockport who lives on Brookdale Road wants the stop signs removed. "Is it legal to use these stop signs to slow traffic?" Jean Moszak asked board members at the March 19 meeting. more

Riga and Churchville participate in Trail Feasibility Study
The former New York Central Westshore Railroad alignment extends from Churchville in Monroe County to the Village of Oakfield in Genesee County. The Genesee Sno-Packers and Sleds of Stafford snowmobile clubs currently use and maintain this popular snowmobile trail and substantial portions of the alignment are owned by the Town of Byron, the Town of Bergen, the County of Monroe and the Village of Churchville. more

Spencerport budget calls for tax increase
Overall, the budget for 2007-08 looks good, Village of Spencerport Mayor Ted Walker said. The village has three funds from which they draw revenues - the general fund, which is where the tax rate comes from and covers streets, sidewalks, refuse and recycling and community activities; the sewer fund which covers the collection system and pipe maintenance within the village and the electric fund which covers all the costs associated with purchasing and selling electricity, infrastructure, substation, transformers. more

Voters go to polls Tuesday for Spencerport schools project
Residents in the Spencerport Central School District will vote on the proposed 2007 $12.4 million Capital Project on Tuesday, March 27 from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the District Office Building, 71 Lyell Avenue in Spencerport. more

Holley continues to explore capital project options
Putting together a capital project in a school district is not one to be undertaken lightly. As such, Holley School Superintendent Robert D'Angelo and the board of education formed a Capital Project Committee and charged them with the task of discussing capital project options. more

School board candidates sought in Hilton, budget to be presented
Three, three-year positions on the Hilton Central School District Board of Education will be available at the May 15 budget vote and board election. The positions of current Board Members Steve Beauvais, Gary Comardo and Barbara Cutrona expire in 2007. more

Second graders learn about agriculture in NYS
New York State Agriculture Commissioner Patrick Hooker joined more than 500 volunteers, including department employees, to promote agriculture literacy across New York state. more

Soldiers remembered
Hilton Central School students in teacher Erin Cavallaro's Village Elementary School created 100 valentines for soldiers serving in Iraq. The valentine cards were sent to 2004 Hilton High School graduate and LCPL Jonathan Jardas who is serving in Iraq as a member of the Marine Corps, 3/6 Kilo Company, Unit 73300 deployed in Habbinyah. more

The 2006/2007 Hilton Select Basketball 6th grade team, coached by Todd Prince and Mike Miller, had a record of 40-12. more

SUNY Brockport football to change conferences
SUNY Brockport has been invited to join the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) for football starting in the fall of 2008. The NJAC Athletic Directors approved the move last week and the university presidents of the member schools approved the addition of SUNY Brockport. more

Tri-County youth hockey Bantams undefeated in league
On March 4, the Bantam A team from Tri-County Youth Hockey beat the Webster Cyclones team 6-1 in the Empire Amateur Hockey Conference championship game to cap an incredible season. more
