Saints boys LAX earns road win

Churchville-Chili’s boys lacrosse squad led 4-0 after the first quarter and got a four-point effort from senior Trevor Hodgins to defeat host Spencerport 11-6.

Hodgins opened the scoring by racing down the right side and putting the ball inside the right post just 64 seconds into the contest. Aaron Buck made it 2-0 just 23 seconds later after he pounced on a loose ball in the slot.

Cameron Shipley found Jake Mortier for a goal at 5:12 of the first quarter and, a little over three minutes later, Shipley gathered up a loose ball at midfield and broke in all alone before scoring for a 4-0 Saints lead.

Spencerport got back in the game with a pair of tallies just 78 seconds in the second quarter. A man-up, Matt Schumann found Brandon Ellis for the first goal off the second quarter draw and Jordan Swilley followed with an unassisted goal at 1:18 to pull the Rangers to within two goals of the lead.

Mortier scored for the Saints at 5:27, but Spencerport’s Kasey Olsen scored the first of his three goals with an assist by Alex Goodemote to again close the gap to two goals.

But C-C netted three unanswered goals by Joey Johnson, Hodgins and Ryan Cosgrove late in the first half and early in the second to extend their lead to 8-3.

After Buck scored at 1:21 of the fourth quarter to put the Saints up 9-4, the Rangers rallied on goals by Andrew Forte and Olsen to pull to within three with nine minutes remaining.

But the Saints received goals from Mortier and Hodgins later in the fourth quarter to seal their 11-6 victory.

Hodgins had three goals and an assist for the Saints while Buck and Mortier each had two goals and one assist and Johnson added a pair of goals. Senior goalkeeper Mike Yehl made eight saves, including five in the second half to earn the win.

Forte had a two-point game to go with the Olsen hat trick for the Rangers.
