CoyKendall nets game-winner in final seconds

Seventh grader Erin CoyKendall took a pass from Aubrianna Benedetto and scored with just five seconds remaining in regulation to complete a late comeback and give Spencerport a 7-6 victory over host Brockport in girls lacrosse.

The Rangers built a 3-0 first half lead on goals by Benedetto and two by Amber Kegler before the Blue Devils rebounded with four unanswered goals from the end of the first half through the opening seconds of the second to take a 4-3 lead.

Senior Kristin Hill scored an unassisted goal at 3:22 of the second half to tie the game 4-4, but the Blue Devils retook the lead just 13 seconds later.

After ten scoreless minutes, CoyKendall and Benedetto combined to again tie the game 5-5 at 14:10.

Brockport scored with 4:10 remaining and appeared to have the game in hand, but Rangers senior Brittany Moss scored the tying goal with 42 seconds left and CoyKendall netted the game-winner off a stoppage with the clock ticking down.

“Never, ever give up,” said Rangers head coach Tricia Condon after the comeback. “I’m proud that they never stopped working and were able to make this happen.”

Benedetto finished with one goal and two assists, CoyKendall a pair of goals with one assist and Kegler had two goals for the 6-3 Rangers. Olivia Schroeder made six saves in net to earn the win.
