Distant, Postell pace Saints

Senior forward Jade Distant scored four points in each quarter while freshman Sydney Postell helped Churchville-Chili out of the gate with a six-point first quarter to lead the host Saints to a 46-33 victory over Spencerport in girls basketball.

The Saints jumped to a 17-6 first quarter lead as junior Hannah Shipley added to Postell’s offense with a three-pointer while Distant scored her two field goals after two of her game-high six steals.

Junior Maria Wiater knocked down a trey in the second quarter and junior Jasmine Gibbs added a jumper as Churchville-Chili built their lead to 27-11 at the half.

Spencerport found their offense in the third quarter, putting up 15 points led by junior Elaina Johnson’s four field goals, but the Saints countered with 13 points of their own in the quarter as junior Mikayla Shipley scored three points.

The teams traded six field goals in the fourth with Distant accounting for two for the Saints and Spencerport getting consecutive field goals from sophomore Erica Beaty and senior Shea Schleicher and three-pointer by junior Allison Priester.

Distant finished with a game-best 16 points to go with six steals and a pair of assists while Postell added six rebounds and three steals to her ten points for the Saints. Mikayla Shipley finished with six points, five rebounds and two assists while Hannah Shipley added five points and junior Jessalyn Taylor three steals.

Spencerport’s Beaty netted ten points with Johnson adding nine. Junior Lillian DePalma, sophomore Emma Taylor, sophomore Marah Auburn, and Priester each scored three points.
