New fire truck added to Brockport’s apparatus fleet
Thursday, December 11 Brockport firefighters were at the Market Street station to receive their new fire apparatus. Quint 230 was delivered by Empire Emergency Apparatus, Inc. of Niagara Falls.
The new truck is a Rosenbauer 105’ aerial with a platform at the top of the ladder. This platform ladder is mounted on a Quint. The Quint is capable of bringing the aerial ladder, ground ladders, hose and water to the scene. It is equipped with a 2,000 gallon per minute pump. The platform, while it is new to Brockport, is a mainstay with many departments across the country. It provides a safer environment for firefighters and it is easier during a rescue for the victim to climb onto the platform than onto a traditional open ladder.
The truck committee, consisting of Gordon Bemis, John Alexander, Scott Wainwright, Michael LaDue, Laurence Vaughan and Charles Sanford, has been designing the truck, drafting the specifications and investigating what is best apparatus for the future of the Greater Brockport community for over three years. They say they are pleased with the results of their efforts and the final product accepted by the firefighters.
This new vehicle was purchased for $909,000. While this seems like a staggering amount, fire apparatus with the capabilities this truck offers range in price from $800,000 to $1,500,000, according to committee members. The commissioners believe they purchased the best truck for the community at a reasonable cost to the taxpayers.
