C-C’s Kaitlyn Pozzuolo Honored with Do the Right Thing Award

Churchville-Chili senior high school student, Kaitlyn Pozzuolo, was one of 15 students from across Monroe County honored at the Do the Right Thing Awards program on February 26. The program is sponsored by the Rochester Police Department and recognizes students who have gone above and beyond to do the right thing.

School Administrator Steven Colabufo nominated Kaitlyn for her quick thinking and compassion when a fellow student experienced a medical issue while at school. This past fall, Kaitlyn was in the hall when she observed another student leaving a classroom. That student wasn’t feeling well, and as she was walking towards the bathroom, she passed out and fell face forward onto the hard hallway floor. She then got up and continued walking very unsteadily toward the bathroom. Kaitlyn saw what was happening and immediately went to help, while directing her friend to go to the nearby cafeteria to get this student’s brother and notify security. Kaitlyn stayed with the student and helped keep her calm as other staff members arrived to provide aid. Kaitlyn helped the student sit down on the floor against the wall, held her hand, and talked to her, keeping her calm until the school nurse arrived. Thanks to Kaitlyn’s quick actions, she played an important role in preventing further injury to her peer. Mr. Colabufo was very impressed with Kaitlyn’s ability to quickly and calmly address the situation.

Any student enrolled in grades K-12 in any school within Monroe County is eligible for nomination. Students may be nominated for incidents that have occurred within one year of the nomination, and the act must have occurred within Monroe County. Anyone over 18 years old can nominate a student, and nominations are accepted throughout the year.
