They competed against each other in high school at Hilton, Churchville-Chili, and Spencerport, but now they are combining forces to lead Roberts Wesleyan men’s lacrosse as they head into conference play.

Through the first seven games of the season, sophomores Colin Duncan (Churchville-Chili) and Chase Wilson (Hilton) sit atop the Redhawks scoring chart with 18 and 20 goals with 23 and 21 points, respectively.

Wilson led the Redhawks in scoring as a freshman last season and has picked up right where he left off. He was a Monroe County Division I first-team selection as a Cadet.

“We definitely have a lot of stuff to work on, but I’m glad we were able to finish strong today,” Wilson said after their home opener.

“Colin and I work really well together; I’m glad he’s on my team. We played against each other in high school, but I didn’t really know him that much. As soon as he came here, we clicked pretty well.

“We knew we’d work together well, and I’m glad he’s here. Where his weaknesses are, my strengths are, and vice versa.”

Duncan transferred from the University of Albany after one year to join forces up front. The 6’3”, 220 lb. force was a Monroe County Division 3 Honorable Mention selection at attack for the Saints.

“I live right down Union Street, so I’m nice and close, and it seemed like a good fit for me,” Wilson said. “They’ve welcomed me very well…we both try to get as many goals as we can.

“I used to play against him all the time. We’d fight back and forth; he’d have three goals on his team, I’d have three goals on my team, but they’d always come out with the win.”

Senior midfielder Sam Keens (Spencerport) contributes at both ends of the field and netted his first goal of the season on March 25 against Lake Erie College.

“He’s a diamond in the rough for us; freshman year, I told him to come play defense for us, and you’ll play all four years, and you’ll be able to push transition,” first-year head coach Rocky Delfino, Jr. said. “Sam has been my saving grace for four years…he was a good find for us because he’s a great athlete and helps us out a lot.”

In the home opener, the three accounted for eight of the team’s 13 goals and two of the five assists.

“Section V area—we can run that; we can play those guys. Just get them in the program. That’s what we want; we want the guys around here to stay home.”
